For the first time after independence, army uniform cloth will be made in the country

Defense fabric for the country’s police force and the military was till now sourced from China, Taiwan, and Korea, but for the first time since independence, this fabric will now be ready in Surat.

The textile mill of Surat has received the first order from the Army to manufacture 1 million meters of defense fabric. This fabric is being prepared on the Guidelines of Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). However, for the 50 million-plus personnel of police forces, military, 5 million meters of fabric is used every year. According to Laxmipati Group MD Sanjay Saravagi, the DRDO, CII South Gujarat Organization officials and Surat’s textile entrepreneurs had a virtual meeting in September. In this, the textile industry of Surat was requested to produce the fabric of the need of various military teams including the three armies of the country.

The textile industry operators for the security sector say that this fabric is made from high tenacity yarn. It is so strong that it cannot be torn by hand. The DRDO is also adopting a self-sufficient mantra in view of the demands of the times.
