Elephant died due to electrocution

News of the elephant’s death in Jashpur city of Chhattisgarh has come to light. Even before this, the news of elephant deaths due to electric current has been reported in the state. The elephant died due to exposure to current flowing wire in the fence. The incident is from Jhiliberna village in Tapakra police station area. According to the information, Ranjit Kispotta, a resident of this village, laid a current flowing wire in the fence of his house. On the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, an elephant wandering away from the party in this area came into contact with it. He died on the spot due to current.

On the information of the incident, the forest department team including Ranger Abhinav Kesarwani of Tapakra reached the spot. During interrogation, the accused Ranjit Careketta admitted that the current flowing wire was attached to his body. Since 2013, he has been doing this to avoid elephants. Action is being taken against the accused in the case under the Wildlife Protection Act. This is the second incident of elephant death in the district within three months. Earlier, a pregnant elephant was killed in Narayanpur.
